The Kenya national amputee football team is set to kick off their campaign at the Confederation of East and Central African Football (CECAAF) Championships on Tuesday at Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura, Burundi, where they will face regional rivals Tanzania’s Tembo Warriors in the tournament opener.
Kenya has been drawn in Group B alongside neighbors Tanzania and Uganda. Group A features hosts Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Zambia.
Head coach Wycliffe Opondo finalized his squad last week following a three-week training camp in Nairobi. He has named Tyrus Olielo and Pancras Washington as the team’s goalkeepers.
The defense line includes Joash Bariti, Bramwel Koli, Peter Nzioka, Kevin Lumbasi, Cornelius Mudy, and Sammy Hussein. The midfield will be anchored by Albert Mwakenga, James Ereng, Nicholas Keiyo, and Timothy Yatich.
Upfront, Kenya will count on strikers Samuel Kariuki, Michael Ogonji, and Mohammed Munga to deliver goals. However, Coach Opondo is yet to confirm the final matchday squad for the opener against Ivo Mapunda’s Tanzania side.
