Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has brushed off plans by DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua to testify before the US Senate over alleged terror links involving President William Ruto’s government.

Addressing Monday, during the on-going Jukwaa La Usalama caucus in Narok, Murkomen stated that if the accusations by Gachagua are to be taken into consideration, he needs to return to Kenya and issue an official statement.

He accused the former deputy president of being unpatriotic, spreading rumors, and rocking national unity. Murkomen also criticised Gachagua’s visit to America, claiming he had downplayed major security concerns and embarrassed Kenya’s image abroad.

“If he has information, he should come home and submit it in writing to the DCI. That’s the only way we can verify if what he’s saying is true,” Murkomen insisted.

He went on to describe Gachagua’s decision to testify before a foreign Senate as “laughable” and lacking a strong basis, even questioning his state of mind given his reported political ambitions.

Addressing accusations that he was meddling in the work of the National Police Service (NPS), Murkomen clarified that he was only pointing out what the law expects from members of the public.

“When I say he should record a statement, I’m not interfering with NPS independence. I’m just stating what the law requires,” he said.

The war of words between the two escalated on Sunday when Gachagua, speaking at a diaspora town hall at Holy Names University in San Francisco, dared Murkomen to arrest him upon his return to Kenya.

Gachagua dismissed Murkomen’s call for a statement, saying the investigation wasn’t his doing.

“I’m not a leader who buys fear. I’m not the one investigating William Ruto it’s the Senate of the United States,” Gachagua said, adding, “If the Americans need my help with investigations, I would assist, because that’s where the probe is.”
