The National Assembly has passed the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2024, which aims to formally entrench the NG-CDF, the Senate Oversight Fund, and the National Government Affirmative Action Fund into the Constitution.

The bill garnered the support of 304 members surpassing the threshold of 233 members. In a rare show of unity, MPs even voted from their hospital beds.The fate of the constitutional amendment bill 2025 now lies with the senate after the National Assembly unanimously passed the bill on Tuesday.

During the debate members hailed the bill saying it will end what they termed as unnecessary litigation over the legality of the fund.

The bill which seeks to entrench the National Government Constituency Development Fund, The National Government Affirmative Action Fund and Senate Oversight Fund had seen sustained push by the lawmakers in protecting the funds.

The bill with now head to the senate for consideration where if adopted will proceed for assent by the president.
