Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) President, Dr. Erick Rutto, has been appointed as a member of the General Council of the World Chambers Federation (WCF).
Dr. Rutto joins 20 elected and 19 appointed members from across the globe on the WCF General Council, the key decision-making body that forms ad-hoc working groups to address specific priorities within the WCF’s programme of action.
The newly constituted Council includes representatives from every global region—Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe—ensuring diverse perspectives in shaping the future of international commerce.
Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Rutto emphasized the importance of African representation at the global level.
“This opportunity allows Africa to highlight the immense potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to global investors and trade partners,” he said.
Adding “I look forward to collaborating with fellow Council members to elevate the African voice, foster stronger partnerships, and drive impactful solutions for businesses worldwide.”
Dr. Rutto’s appointment underscores the WCF’s continued commitment to global inclusion and enhanced representation, particularly from underrepresented regions.

Africa’s growing role in the global chamber movement was further reinforced earlier this year when Nairobi hosted the WCF Congress for the first time on the continent.
Regional summits such as the WCF-Africa Congress serve as vital platforms for chamber leaders to tackle shared challenges and explore regional opportunities through collaboration and dialogue.
