Tanzanian singer Lavalava has firmly denied widespread rumours that he received financial compensation from Diamond Platnumz following his departure from the WCB Wasafi record label. Addressing the speculation head-on, Lavalava made it clear that he did not walk away with any payout from the label or its founder.
Lavalava, who had been with WCB for six years, made a quiet exit in May 2025. His departure followed closely behind other notable exits, including that of fellow artist Mbosso. While the reasons behind Lavalava’s move were not immediately detailed, sources within the WCB camp praised the decision, with figures like Baba Levo calling it a mature and independent step. The music community largely viewed Lavalava’s departure as a natural evolution for an artist ready to stand on his own.
As with other artists who previously left the label—such as Harmonize and Rayvanny—speculation began to swirl about whether Lavalava had paid a buy-out fee or received a severance package from WCB. Both Harmonize and Rayvanny were said to have parted with millions to gain full artistic independence. However, in Lavalava’s case, such financial dealings appear non-existent.
Reports from credible outlets such as The Nation and ODRi Media confirm there’s no evidence of Lavalava receiving or paying any form of monetary settlement. In fact, insiders and Lavalava himself have clarified that his departure did not involve any financial obligations or rewards. WCB even acknowledged and celebrated his decision without any mention of contractual fees or compensations.
