Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today joined Health Ministers from 47 African countries for a high-level Coordination Meeting at the United Nations Offices in Geneva.

The meeting, convened by Dr. Louise Mapleh Kpoto, Minister of Health for Liberia and Chair of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, aimed to harmonize the continent’s position ahead of the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78).

The ministers adopted a unified African position on several priority issues, including health emergency preparedness and response, WHO governance reforms, and the proposed Programme Budget for 2026–2027. They also addressed outcomes and recommendations from the 156th WHO Executive Board meeting.

The gathering provided a platform for Africa to speak with one voice on global health matters, enhancing its influence at the World Health Assembly.

Also in attendance were Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, Acting WHO Regional Director for Africa; Dr. Mohammed Yakub Janabi, the newly elected WHO Regional Director; Amb. Fancy Too, Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva; and Dr. Patrick Amoth, Kenya’s Director General for Health.

The coordination meeting marks a key step in strengthening Africa’s health diplomacy and ensuring the continent’s priorities are reflected in global health
