Members of the Siaya County Assembly have dismissed reports suggesting they rejected an invitation to State House by President William Ruto.

Addressing the media during a press briefing, the MCAs clarified that the planned meeting was not turned down, but postponed due to the absence of Governor James Orengo, who is currently out of the country.

Led by County Assembly Majority Leader Richard Otieno, the legislators stated that the meeting, initially scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, had been rescheduled to next week to ensure full participation of the county’s top leadership.

“Some of our county’s senior officials were still away, and we wanted the meeting to be inclusive. That is why we agreed to postpone until everyone is available,” said Otieno.

His remarks were supported by several MCAs, who reiterated their willingness and readiness to engage with the President at State House.

The invitation letter was reportedly shared with the MCAs on May 12 by Senator Oburu Odinga, who relayed the message on behalf of State House.

“The initial communication was sent to top county leaders, and it was through our Senator, Dr. Oburu Odinga, that we were informed about the planned meeting,” said North Ugenya MCA Benard Adala.

Madingu MCA added, “We were only informed about the meeting yesterday. When we asked for further details, we were told the invitation had been sent through our Senator.”

At the same time, the MCAs refuted allegations that they are plotting to impeach Governor Orengo over his political positions, terming the claims as baseless and misleading.
