The Farmers Party has formally written to the Inspector General of Police seeking permission and protection for a planned peaceful protest at the official residence of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Karen.
In a letter signed by the party’s executive Director Wakibi Njogu , the party requested that adequate security be provided to ensure the demonstration proceeds peacefully and is not hijacked by criminal elements.
“We kindly request the Inspector General to provide sufficient police presence to guarantee that the peaceful assembly is not infiltrated by goons and hooligans,” read part of the statement released on Monday.
The party insists that the planned protest, set for May 13, is constitutionally protected under the freedom of assembly. The demonstration, it says, is aimed at raising concerns following the recent impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The move comes amid heightened political tension, with various factions expressing displeasure at what they term as unconstitutional political maneuvers targeting Mount Kenya leaders.
