Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has expressed unwavering confidence in former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political influence in the Mount Kenya region, hinting at significant developments on the horizon.
Speaking on the fallout following Gachagua’s impeachment, Kahiga described the move as politically charged, stirring strong emotions in the region and exposing President William Ruto’s strategies.
“The politics of Mt Kenya is rapidly evolving. Mambo bado (It’s not over yet),” Kahiga said, adding that the region will settle its dynamics naturally without external interference.
Kahiga affirmed that the region remains firmly behind Gachagua, emphasizing his role as a visionary leader for the people who initially propelled him to power alongside President Ruto.
“The mountain is fully behind Gachagua, and there is no doubt about it. He is the people’s Deputy President, and nobody should write him off regarding 2027 succession politics. He controls the masses,” Kahiga declared.
With speculation rife about Gachagua’s next political moves, including reports that he might join or take over the Democratic Party, Kahiga offered a measured response.
“Gachagua has all the options regarding the choice of party. He can register a new one or acquire an existing one. Above all, he will make his stand known by January,” Kahiga stated.
Dismissing claims of divisions in the region, Kahiga insisted that Mount Kenya is united, with any perceived rifts being the creation of select politicians.
“Those claiming the Mt Kenya region is divided are mistaken. We are fully united; the divisions exist only in the minds of a few politicians from Kenya Kwanza,” he asserted.
