England defender John Stones has withdrawn from the national team squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a muscle injury.

Manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed that the 31-year-old Manchester City centre-back arrived at the England training camp carrying a muscular issue, which has failed to improve during his initial assessments.

Stones has featured in all three of Manchester City’s Premier League matches this season, but Tuchel emphasized he is not willing to take any risks with the experienced defender.

The withdrawal is a significant setback for Tuchel, who is yet to have Stones available since taking over as England manager.

The defender also missed the last two international camps due to injury.

Tuchel, a noted admirer of Stones, has previously praised the City man for his composure, versatility, and tactical intelligence.

The England boss now hopes the issue is not serious and that Stones can be fit in time for the October internationals.
