Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba stirred political waters on Monday after boldly declaring former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the undisputed political kingpin of the Mount Kenya region.
In a strongly worded statement, Wamuchomba criticized what she termed as reckless political attacks on Uhuru, warning that such divisive rhetoric threatens the unity of the region.
“It is disheartening to watch leaders from Mount Kenya fighting each other for political gain,” she said, adding that no single politician can lay claim to the region’s estimated eight million votes.
“Nobody has a monopoly over the mountain votes. Before DCP, there was Jubilee, UDA, DP, and others. We’ve said it before — hatupangwingwi,” she wrote.
Praising Uhuru’s leadership, Wamuchomba highlighted his ten-year presidency, noting that he neither faced impeachment nor sought to impeach his deputy despite political tensions — a mark, she said, of his ability to hold the country together.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is the undisputed kingpin of the mountain — and he didn’t impose himself on us,” she asserted.
She further warned that attacks on Uhuru were not just personal but also a slight to Kiambu County and the broader community. “Let it be clear: when you attack Uhuru, you attack Kiambu County — and we are watching,” she warned.
Her remarks come amid reports of a growing rift between Wamuchomba and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is positioning himself as the new Mt Kenya leader under the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Gachagua has reportedly been working to sideline United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders loyal to President William Ruto, fueling internal tensions within the region’s political landscape.
