The United Democratic Alliance has announced that fresh grassroots elections in Tana River County will be held on August 15, 2026, following an earlier postponement aimed at allowing more members to register and participate in the exercise.
According to the party, the elections will take place in all polling centres across the county from 8am to 5pm as part of efforts to strengthen inclusivity and deepen grassroots democracy within the ruling party.
“The exercise follows the earlier rescheduling to allow more Party members time to register and participate in the electoral process, further strengthening inclusivity and grassroots democracy,” the party said in a statement.
Preparations for the exercise are already underway after elected and nominated leaders, alongside grassroots representatives, met with the party’s National Elections Board (NEB) chaired by Anthony Mwaura to deliberate and agree on the modalities for the polls.
During the elections, party members will elect 20 officials in every polling centre representing various interest groups within the party structure.
The positions include three representatives of farmers, four representatives of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), three representatives of professionals, four youth representatives, two general members, three religious representatives and one representative of Special Interest Groups (SIG).
Upon completion of the exercise, the party expects to have elected 7,320 grassroots officials across the county.
“Upon conclusion of the exercise, a total of 7,320 grassroots officials will have been elected to represent the Party’s rank and file across Tana River County,” the statement added.
The meeting was also attended by UDA Director for Finance and Administration Joseph Mulili, Director of Communication Nathaniel Mong’are and members of the National Elections Board.
The grassroots elections form part of UDA’s broader strategy to strengthen party structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
