UDA Sweeps May 14 By-Elections With Wins in Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Emurua Dikirr

The ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA)party has swept all the May 14 by-elections after securing victories in Narok, Samburu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties.

According to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), UDA candidates won the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat as well as the Endo and Porro ward MCA positions.

In Emurua Dikirr Constituency, IEBC Returning Officer Caleb Gekonde declared David Kipsang Keter the winner after he garnered 18,266 votes. His closest challenger, Vincent Kibet Rotich of the DCP party, received 10,760 votes.

The commission said 29,538 votes were cast out of 44,353 registered voters, translating to a voter turnout of 66.6%.

Who won Endo Ward by-election?

In Endo Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet County, UDA candidate Festus Korir Kiprop emerged victorious with 4,475 votes.His rival, Shadrack Kosgei Chelang’a of the NDP party, finished second with 752 votes.

The IEBC noted that 5,260 voters cast their ballots out of the ward’s 14,361 registered voters, representing a turnout of 36.59%.

UDA also clinched the Porro Ward seat in Samburu County after Daniel Lolngojine won with 2,328 votes. Josphat Jumani Leleur of KANU came second with 1,036 votes. The electoral agency said 4,194 votes were cast out of 6,358 registered voters, resulting in a voter turnout of 65.96%.

Following the victories, the UDA party celebrated the wins, saying the results reflected the confidence voters had in its leadership and development agenda. The party congratulated the three leaders and wished them success as they begin serving residents in their respective areas.
