A high-speed police chase along the busy Eldoret-Nakuru Highway ended dramatically with the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers and the recovery of cannabis worth an estimated Sh3.3 million.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Nakuru, working alongside K9 officers, intercepted a blue Nissan Note registration KDN 836H after receiving intelligence about suspected narcotics trafficking.
Police said the driver ignored orders to stop and instead accelerated, triggering a high-speed pursuit along the highway.
Despite one of the vehicle’s front tyres being deflated during the chase, the driver continued driving recklessly, making a dangerous U-turn at the KFA Roundabout before speeding towards the Eveready area on a damaged rim.
The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, detectives pursued and arrested the pair before they could escape.
A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of five sacks containing 110 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, with an estimated street value of Sh3.3 million.
The arrested suspects were identified as Emmanuel Wesonga and Stephen Daria.
The DCI said the two are currently in custody undergoing processing and are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. The recovered narcotics have been detained as exhibits.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to combating drug trafficking and warned individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in tracking and dismantling criminal networks across the country.
