Turkiye: Bosting War Against Narcotics Trafficking

Government of the Republic of Turkiye has donated computers and office supplies to the Drug Control Initiative to build up operations at the Anti-Narcotics Unit and improve enforcement capacity.

The equipment was handed over in an official ceremony at the DCI Headquarters, officially received by the Director of Criminal investigations, Mohamed Amin.

The initiative is marked is indicative of the growing security ties between Kenya and Turkey.

The Turkey ambassador to Kenya HE Subutay, Yüksel, together with the Counsellor for Security and Interior Affairs, Ibrahim Cildir and the Coordinator of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), Kenan Yigit handed over the donation as a timely and strategic intervention that would bolster the ANU’s investigative capacity, management of intelligence, and operational coordination in the current drive against drug trafficking.

“The support is an example of the deep friendship and strategic partnership that exists between Kenya and Turkiye.

It will greatly improve our operational preparedness and institutional capacity in combating organised crime and trafficing in narcotics, “said Amin.

He further commended Türkiye for its continued support in training and capacity building for DCI officers, noting that the collaboration has greatly sharpened investigative skills, professionalism, and preparedness to confront emerging security threats.

On his part, Ambassador Yüksel praised the DCI for its sustained and relentless war against narcotics trafficking and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to strengthening security cooperation with Kenya.

“We stand firmly with Kenya in this fight and will continue supporting efforts aimed at enhancing collaboration and protecting our societies from transnational crime,” he said.

This handover signifies another milestone in the fast-developing relationship between Kenya and Trkiye. As their cooperation increases, the two countries are strengthening their joint efforts in the fight against organised criminal networks and the international drug trade.
