Turkana to Benefit from Seven-Year Multi-Billion Climate Resilience Project

More than 50, 000 nomadic community members in Turkana County will be the main beneficiaries of a seven, year multi, billion shilling project aimed at climate resilience, health system improvement, education access, and gender equality promotion.

The project is set to be implemented by the Turkana county government in collaboration with Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) and Global Affairs Canada.

The project is expected to boost the ongoing efforts by the government to curb the dire impacts of drought and famine that the country is currently experiencing.

Turkana County is one among the drought-stricken counties with thousands of residents in dire need of humanitarian support after months of failed rains

It is against this backdrop that faith based Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) and Global Affairs Canada have teamed up with Turkana county government to provide the much needed support through the implementation of a 7 year multi-billion relief programs;

ADRA associate programs director Erick Wanga said that community members will be at the center of day t to achieve  the desired results.

The agencies also proposed sensitization of the communities on diversifying their source of livelihoods, to reduce overreliance of cattle farming .This even as they plan to expand this project to other ASAL counties.
