Police at Muhoroni Sub County have arrested three suspects in connection with a mob attack at Chemelil Academy that resulted in the injuring of staff and destruction of the property.
On June 18 2026 a gang of about 20 men armed with crude weapons invaded the school, which triggered panic and resulted in property destruction, before the hoodlums escaped, in what’s a classic case of mob violence.
According to police, officers moved to the spot following a call for help but only managed to see the suspects escapung in different directions, with some heading to Achego while others escaped into the sugarcane plantations near the school.
The school was vandalized and looted by the gang that had broken into the administration block. The Principal and Deputy Principal’s offices were the ones mainly affected. The gang Though didn’t stop there but also attacked members of staff before making off with ten mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.
The staff members who got injured were taken to Nyang’oma Sub, County Hospital in a mission to provide them with medical treatment. They’re said to be out of danger now.
The launch of police manhunt which ensued the attack saw the capture of three suspected culprits namely Bernard Ouma, Thomas Onyango Ouma and Walter Owa, also known as Teddy Obul.
The suspects were arrested at different locations within Chemelil and are currently in police custody awaiting processing and arraignment.
The police said that investigations are still underway as they continue to follow leads to find other suspects who are still at large.
