Police in Thika West Sub-County have arrested three young men following a series of mobile phone thefts reported in the Jomoko area, in a renewed effort to curb rising street crime.
Officers from Ngoingwa Police Station moved swiftly after receiving multiple complaints from members of the public who had fallen victim to phone-snatching incidents. Intelligence gathered during investigations revealed that the suspects were using a motorcycle to trail unsuspecting pedestrians, grab their phones, and escape within seconds.
Acting on this information, police intensified patrols and mounted a well-planned ambush along a route frequently used by the suspects. Their efforts paid off when a motorcycle carrying three male suspects, aged between 22 and 24, was spotted approaching from the Juja direction.
The officers intercepted the motorcycle and arrested all three occupants without incident. A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of a toy pistol, which investigators believe was used to intimidate victims during the robberies.
During questioning, the suspects admitted they were not residents of the area and had been travelling from a different neighbourhood in Nairobi County specifically to carry out the thefts.
