A 17-year-old girl, Lizz Njeri Mwangi, has been arrested in connection with the shocking murder of 3-year-old Margaret Wanjiru Kirathe in Menengai, Nakuru County.
The tragic incident occurred near PCEA Shalom Mchanganyiko Church, where the child was found unconscious about 50 metres away. She was rushed to Kenlands Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly lured the little girl away from the church before strangling her with a piece of cloth. The motive behind the killing remains unclear.
Following a swift investigation, officers tracked down Lizz Njeri to her home in Judea Village, Menengai Sub-Location, within Kiamaina Ward.
Key evidence was recovered during her arrest, including the clothing she was seen wearing on CCTV and the cloth used in the murder.
She is currently in police custody as authorities prepare to arraign her in court.
The case has sparked grief and outrage in the community, with many calling for justice for young Margaret.
