The Kenyan athletes team has returned back home after an impressive performance at the African Senior Athletics Championships held in Accra, Ghana.
Being the second overall in the medals, they were received warmly with a grand reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) .Finishing behind South Africa with 22 medals, team Kenya secured 17 medals in total with five gold, five silver and seven bronze.
Belinda Adhiambo Oburu emerged the standout performer in shot put, winning a bronze medal on her debut for Kenya with a throw of 16.39 meters, while Kelvin Loti claimed gold in the men’s 800 meters race clocking 1:45:47.
Javelin star Julius Yego won a gold medal with a throw of 79.87 meters. Diana Wanza and Diana Chepkemoi won the 10,000 meters and 3,000 meters steeplechase, respectively.
The athletes are now focusing while waiting for the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July23 to August 2, 2026 in Glasgow, Scotland.
