Tanzanian gospel artist Goodluck Gozbert has caused a stir after burning a Mercedes Benz he was gifted by renowned preacher Prophet Geor Davie in 2021. The move, which he shared in a video on January 24, 2025, left many questioning the motivations behind such an extreme action.

In a viral video from a past service, Prophet Geor Davie had asked Goodluck, known for his hit song “Huwezi Kushindana,” about the best vehicle he had ever owned. Goodluck responded that he had a Toyota Harrier, to which the preacher immediately promised to gift him a Mercedes Benz. As the congregation cheered, a shiny C-class sedan was driven into the venue, and the preacher handed the keys to Goodluck, who was visibly emotional, even shedding tears.

“You will never be looked down upon again,” the preacher told Goodluck, adding that the singer’s life had changed since meeting him. The moment was filled with emotion and celebration as the gifted car symbolized a new chapter for the artist.

However, in a shocking turn of events, Goodluck posted a video nearly three years later, revealing that he had burned the very vehicle he once accepted with gratitude. The gospel singer explained that he had come to believe the gift was displeasing to God, acknowledging that both the food he ate at the service and the car itself were part of something that didn’t sit right with his conscience.

“I want to let people know that the food I ate that day during the service and the car gift displeased God. It was not right for me to partake in it,” Goodluck stated in the video, urging his followers to respect his decision, whether they agreed or not. He further expressed that, if allowed by God, he would speak more on the matter in the future.

In a symbolic gesture of his decision, Goodluck drove the repainted black Mercedes Benz to a remote location, poured fuel on it, and set the vehicle ablaze, watching as the car was reduced to flames.

The controversial act has sparked widespread debate, with many people, including fellow preachers, expressing mixed reactions. Some fans and religious leaders have shown support for Goodluck’s decision, while others have criticized his actions as extreme and unnecessary. As of now, it remains unclear whether the singer’s move will influence other gospel artists or shift perceptions around material gifts from religious leaders.

Goodluck’s video ends with a simple message: “God bless you,” leaving many wondering if this is just the beginning of a deeper story he might share in the coming days.
