Students from Rift Valley National Polytechnic (RVNP) in Nakuru took to the streets today to protest rising insecurity and the poor state of Kabasis Road, which leads to their institution.

The demonstration disrupted traffic along the busy Nakuru–Eldoret highway at Ngata, forcing police to intervene with teargas to disperse the students and clear roadblocks.

The students said several of their colleagues have been injured in recent weeks following attacks by suspected gangs on the poorly lit stretch of road.

They are now calling on the government to install streetlights along Kabasis Road to enhance security and support local businesses by extending trading hours.
