StarTimes Media is expanding its content portfolio as it moves to strengthen its foothold in Kenya’s pay-TV market and accelerate subscriber growth.
On Tuesday, the company announced the premiere of two new telenovelas set to air this March on Novela E Plus—It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and the highly anticipated Season 3 of Gangs of Manila.
Commenting on the development, Myke Mwai, Head of PR and Content Syndication, said the new titles reflect StarTimes’ continued focus on compelling storytelling designed to attract new viewers while keeping existing audiences engaged.
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, which premieres on March 16 at 9:40 PM, follows the emotional journey of a dedicated caregiver grappling with personal struggles while looking after his mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
Meanwhile, Season 3 of Gangs of Manila, premiering on March 28 at 8:50 PM, promises intense action and drama as it plunges viewers into the gritty and dangerous criminal underworld of Manila.
Mwai said the introduction of the new series highlights StarTimes’ content-led growth strategy, aimed at strengthening its programming line-up.
“Investing in premium content remains central to our mission of delivering top-tier entertainment while growing our subscriber base. These productions are not only compelling stories but also strategic tools to engage audiences, build loyalty, and reinforce our competitive position in the pay-TV market,” he said.
He added that StarTimes has stepped up investments in content promotion and marketing to increase viewership, enhance subscriber retention, and attract new audiences across Kenya and the wider East African region.
According to Mwai, the approach reflects the company’s understanding of quality content as a key driver of business growth, positioning StarTimes among the leading players in the region’s pay-TV industry.
“By prioritizing diverse, high-quality storytelling and backing it with strong promotional campaigns, we are able to enhance our brand value, expand market share, and strengthen viewer confidence,” he added.
