South Africa’s Tylon Smith has been named Best Player of the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025, after a standout tournament in which he played a key role in guiding the Amajita to their first-ever continental title.
The 19-year-old midfielder was a driving force throughout the competition, showcasing his composure, vision, and playmaking abilities.
He was instrumental in South Africa’s 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final at the Cairo International Stadium and scored the decisive goal in the semi-final clash against Nigeria.
Smith’s ability to control the tempo and seamlessly link defense with attack made him a consistent standout performer, earning widespread praise for his maturity and influence in midfield.
South Africa capped off their historic campaign by sweeping the major individual honours. Goalkeeper Fletcher Lowe was named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament after keeping four clean sheets and making a tournament-high 24 saves.
His sharp reflexes and calm presence were crucial in the final, where he made several key stops to deny Morocco an equaliser.
While South Africa lifted both the trophy and the top two individual awards, Sierra Leone’s Momoh Kamara claimed the Golden Boot. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder scored four goals — including a memorable hat-trick against hosts Egypt — and emerged as one of the tournament’s brightest talents.
Despite finishing as runners-up, Morocco were recognised with the Fair Play Award for their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
