Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has signalled the start of an aggressive nationwide popularisation campaign for the National Economic Development Party (NEDP) following the unveiling of the party’s first-ever candidates ahead of the February 26, 2026 by-elections.

In a ceremony held on Tuesday,NEDP issued nomination certificates to its candidates, marking a major milestone since the party’s full registration in December last year.

The move positions the party for its first electoral test and sets the stage for what Sonko described as a people-driven political revolution.

The nominees include Hon. Isack Abduba Fayo for the Isiolo South parliamentary seat, George Musini Mukhwana for the West Kabras MCA seat in Malava, and Cosmas Njeru alongside Martin Mukundi for the Muminji and Evurore ward seats in Embu County, respectively.

Speaking during the event, Sonko said the unveiling of candidates was not just about by-elections but the beginning of a broader national push to introduce Kenyans to the party’s ideology and agenda.

“This is a historic beginning for our movement. We are now taking our message to every corner of the country,” Sonko said, adding that the party would focus on issue-based and people-centered politics.

He noted that the NEDP’s agenda would prioritise tackling the high cost of living, unemployment, and economic exclusion, issues he said continue to weigh heavily on ordinary Kenyans.

Sonko was accompanied by senior party officials, including Chairman Dr. John Nyamu, Secretary General Ben Mulwa, and Executive Director Daniel Mokua, who echoed his sentiments and pledged to strengthen grassroots structures nationwide ahead of future elections.

Party insiders say the nationwide popularisation drive will include grassroots engagements, town hall meetings, and strategic outreach in urban and rural areas as the party seeks to establish itself as a viable alternative on the national political stage.

Concluding his address, Sonko struck a defiant tone, declaring: “Fellow Kenyans, the revolution has begun.”
