Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his Vihiga counterpart Godfrey Osotsi have been removed from two of the Senate’s powerful oversight committees in the latest changes approved by the ODM-led Minority side.
A report tabled in the Senate proposes moving Sifuna from the County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) to the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Committee.
Osotsi has also been removed from the County Public Investments and Special Funds Committee (CPIC) and reassigned to the National Cohesion, Equal Opportunity and Regional Integration Committee.
If the changes are adopted by the House, Sifuna will be replaced in CPAC by nominated Senator Joseph Githuku and Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo. Osotsi’s place in CPIC will be taken by Taita Taveta Senator Johnes Mwaruma and nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian.
The reshuffle comes days after Sifuna claimed that plans were underway to remove him and Osotsi from their committee positions.
Speaking during a recent interview, Sifuna said he had already been informed of the move.
“It is clear that those in the ODM leadership are done with us. They are going to remove Senator Osotsi as the chair of the County Public Investments Committee. They’re going to remove me from the County Public Accounts Committee,” he said.
Sifuna, however, appeared unbothered by the changes.
“They’re sending me to the Fisheries Committee, which they think is a punishment. I actually need to learn about agriculture, fisheries and the blue economy because of the coming assignments,” he added.
The latest changes come amid growing tensions between Sifuna and sections of the ODM leadership over the party’s working relationship with President William Ruto’s administration.
Sifuna and Osotsi have in recent months openly criticised the broad based arrangement and have become key figures in the opposition’s Linda Mwananchi movement ahead of the 2027 General Election.
