The County Government of Siaya has entered into a technical partnership with agribusiness firm Kakuzi PLC to strengthen avocado and macadamia farming in the region.

During a familiarisation tour of Kakuzi’s Makuyu orchards, Governor James Orengo said the collaboration will expose smallholder farmers in Siaya to modern farming practices, while also improving access to quality seedlings.

He added that the county will build the technical capacity of its agricultural extension officers to better support farmers on the ground.

Kakuzi PLC Managing Director Chris Flowers reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing farmer skills and promoting high-quality avocado and macadamia production for both local consumption and export markets.

As part of the deal, Kakuzi will also showcase its innovative products—including ready-to-eat macadamia nuts and cold-pressed macadamia oil—at the upcoming Siaya International Trade and Investment Conference (SITICO).

The partnership is expected to transform agribusiness in Siaya County, empower smallholder farmers, and drive sustainable economic growth.
