Shabana FC has filed an appeal at the Sports Disputes Tribunal against sanctions imposed by the Football Kenya Federation after their supporters turned violent and vandalised a stadium.
FKF banned Shabana from hosting fans for their home games, ordered the team to pay for damages on Ulinzi Sports Complex and clear medical bills of two police officers injured during the chaos.
The fans went on rampage after Ulinzi Stars equalised after the 90th minute, ending in a 2-2 draw.
Through Steve Ombasa and Company Advocates, the club wants the sanctions suspended pending full hearing by the tribunal.
Dissatisfied by the FKF’s Leagues and Complaints Committee’s verdict, the club blames the incident on the match referees.
The club argues; “The alleged destruction of property by fans and the incident involving the security officer were consequences of the heightened emotions and tensions arising from the match, particularly due to contentious officiating decisions. The club should not be held solely responsible for the actions of a few individuals under such circumstances”.
