Kenya’s security agencies are set to begin sharing real-time intelligence following Cabinet approval of a National Integrated Security Command and Control System aimed at overhauling the country’s public safety infrastructure.

The new system will replace the current outdated security platform with a technology-driven, integrated architecture linking multiple security agencies to enable faster intelligence flow and coordinated response to incidents.

Speaking after the Cabinet decision, Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the command and control system will significantly strengthen national security coordination by allowing agencies to access and act on real-time information.

“The platform will modernise our public safety infrastructure and improve the speed and effectiveness of security responses across the country,” Dr Omollo said.

According to the Interior ministry, the system will initially be deployed in major urban centres and strategic transport and border corridors considered critical to national security. These include Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret, as well as key border counties.

Once operational, the integrated command system is expected to enhance inter-agency collaboration, reduce response times and improve situational awareness during emergencies and security incidents.

The revamp forms part of broader government efforts to use technology to strengthen public safety, border control and crime prevention, particularly in high-risk urban and transit areas.

The government did not disclose the cost of the system but said implementation will be phased, with expansion to other regions planned after the initial rollout.
