Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving working conditions for traders across the city following a visit to City Market on Friday afternoon.
During the visit, the governor interacted with traders and inspected recent upgrades at the market, which was previously an open-air trading space.
The county government has since installed protective shades, a move that traders say has significantly enhanced their working environment.
“Nairobi County cherishes and supports our traders, and we remain committed to addressing challenges across markets in the city to ensure they have dignified, safe, and conducive spaces to do business,” he said in a statement.
Sakaja noted that the intervention has allowed traders to conduct their businesses more comfortably, shielding them from harsh weather conditions such as intense sun and rain.
“Nairobi County cherishes and supports our traders, and we remain committed to addressing challenges across markets in the city to ensure they have dignified, safe, and conducive spaces to do business,” he said.
The improvements at City Market are part of a broader initiative by the Nairobi County Government aimed at modernizing trading spaces and boosting small-scale businesses, which form a critical part of the city’s economy.
