President William Ruto has yet again confirmed his administration’s directive to empower all youth through a corruption free and transformational economic programme, as he launched the NYOTA Business Start Up Capital Project in Meru County.
Speaking at Kinoru Stadium, where thousands of youth from the Upper Eastern region were present for the event, the President described the project as an economic opportunity unlocking tool, a weapon against unemployment, and a way of equipping young people with the necessary skills and resources to engage in the national development process.
At the launch, the president facilitated the giving out of Sh168 million to over 6, 720 beneficiaries drawn from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties. The President said that the initiative is already on its positive track and he reaffirmed that its achievement depends on honesty and accountability being upheld at all times.
“We must empower our young people in a corruption free manner. No form of mismanagement or misuse of public funds will be allowed, “said the Head of State while cautioning the officials and beneficiaries not to participate in corrupt practices.
The leaders who accompanied the President were of the view that the initiative was a significant step towards alleviating youth unemployment as it would allow the young people to start and expand businesses thus becoming job creators rather than job seekers.
