Nairobi, Kenya President William Ruto this morning met with 5, 500 beneficiaries of the governments affordable housing programme at State House, Nairobi.
In his speech to the meeting, the President said the project was one of the Kenya Kwanza governments manifesto commitments, adding that youth unemployment was still at present the greatest problem in the country.
President Ruto underlined the need for youth involvement in the programme and pointed out different areas where they could engage such as construction, designing, mapping, engineering, and ICT (information and communication technology). He said that their involvement is what will make the project successful.
The President revealed that the government has signed contracts amounting to KSh 600 billion to the beneficiaries, and challenged them to work hard, using the opportunity to not only gain skills but also to improve their career paths.
When asked about corruption, the President refuted the allegations of irregularities in the programme and said various anti, corruption measures have been put in place to close all loopholes and ensure proper handling of resources.
