President William Ruto has announced a multi-pronged approach to tackle alcohol and drug abuse across Kenya, emphasizing prevention, enforcement, treatment, and recovery.

Speaking after chairing a multi-agency meeting, the President said the government will finalize the relevant legal framework to enhance coordination and accountability among agencies. Additional officers are being deployed to the Anti-Narcotics Unit, with full training and logistical support.

Ruto also pledged the establishment of rehabilitation centers in all 47 counties, in partnership with county governments and the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

“We will establish rehabilitation centres in all 47 counties, working closely with county governments and NACADA, alongside strengthened rehabilitation services in national referral hospitals. The Social Health Authority will enhance the cover for treatment and recovery,” Ruto stated.

Rehabilitation services at national referral hospitals will be strengthened, while the Social Health Authority will expand coverage for treatment and recovery.

To disrupt drug trafficking and organized crime, multi-agency border teams will be stationed at five key entry points into the country.

“Our focus remains clear — a whole-of-government approach integrating prevention, enforcement, treatment, and recovery to safeguard our people and national security,” Ruto said.
