President William Ruto has designated the Mwai Kibaki Referral Hospital in Othaya, Nyeri County, as an independent national medical facility, marking a major boost to healthcare services in the Mt Kenya region.
The President said the government has injected KSh500 million to upgrade the hospital’s infrastructure and capacity, aimed at improving service delivery and reducing referrals to facilities in Nairobi.
“We are strengthening regional referral hospitals so that Kenyans can access quality healthcare closer to home,” Ruto said.
In addition to healthcare investments, the President revealed that the national government has committed KSh21 billion towards development projects in Nyeri County.
The funds are being used to construct modern markets, affordable housing units, and students’ hostels, as part of the administration’s broader development agenda.
President Ruto was speaking in Chinga, Othaya Constituency, after attending a church service.
He was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, as well as Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive development, saying no region would be left behind as the government implements its economic transformation agenda.
