President William Ruto has expressed his sorrow following the death of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), who passed away yesterday after a short illness.

Describing her as a powerful advocate for human rights, Ruto took to social media to share his condolences:

“Deeply saddened by the death of Roseline Odhiambo Odede, Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights. She was a formidable human rights champion and a distinguished campaigner for a more equal and fairer society. Our thoughts and love are with her family during this sorrowful time,” Ruto said.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki also paid tribute, highlighting Odede’s commitment to justice and freedom.

“She was a profound and dedicated legal professional, and an unapologetic advocate for the rights and freedoms of all. She believed in the transformative power of liberty and worked tirelessly throughout her career to strengthen democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. May her soul rest in peace,” Kindiki remarked.

Roseline Odede was appointed Chairperson of KNCHR by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in December 2021.

Prior to her appointment, she was a respected advocate of the High Court of Kenya and served as chairperson of the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.
