A section of UDA leaders from the diaspora has thrown its weight behind President William Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration deserves a second term based on its development record.
The leaders, drawn from various countries and led by UDA Diaspora Team Chairman Sam Ronoh, made the declaration after meeting the party’s Secretary General Hassan Omar at the UDA headquarters in Nairobi.
The delegation said it had been following developments in Kenya and was impressed by ongoing government projects, including affordable housing, road construction and sports infrastructure.
“This administration, under President William Ruto, has done so well. We are convinced that it must be given a second chance. We have seen on social media the roads being built, houses and stadia. We will be making physical visits to some of them, starting with Talanta Stadium and the housing programme units,” Ronoh said.
The endorsement comes at a time when political camps are increasingly shifting focus to the diaspora vote ahead of next year’s General Election.
The team also praised the creation of a State Department for Diaspora Affairs, saying it signalled the government’s recognition of the millions of Kenyans living and working abroad.
During the meeting, discussions centred on strengthening UDA structures outside the country and enhancing coordination between the party headquarters and diaspora chapters.
Hassan Omar challenged diaspora members to push for the establishment of a Diaspora Congress, a constitutional party organ that would give overseas members a bigger role in the affairs of the ruling party.
The delegation is expected to meet President Ruto, where it is expected to formally communicate its endorsement and discuss the role of the diaspora in the party’s 2027 campaign strategy.
