President William Ruto has commissioned Kathekani Senior School in Kibwezi East Constituency, Makueni County, following its reconstruction under the Kenya Railways Relocation Action Plan for the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Phase I.

The modern boarding school features eight classrooms, four laboratories, an administration block and two dormitory blocks, among other facilities designed to support learning and accommodate students.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Ruto said the school was among public institutions rebuilt after being affected by the construction of the SGR line.

The railway project affected 25 public institutions, including 12 primary schools and eight secondary schools, which have since been rebuilt under the relocation plan.

The reconstruction programme was aimed at addressing the impact of the railway project on public institutions along its route, ensuring affected schools could continue providing educational services.

Kathekani Senior School’s commissioning marks the completion of another education facility under the programme, with its classrooms, laboratories and boarding facilities expected to support teaching, practical learning and student accommodation.
