President William Ruto has presided over the groundbreaking of the 17-kilometre Labuiywo–Kitechegaa/Kapkoros–Koisagat road, a Sh1.3 billion infrastructure project expected to improve connectivity between communities in Kericho and neighbouring counties.

The road will later link to Nandi Hills and ultimately extend connectivity to Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties, opening up regional transport links and improving access between different parts of the Rift Valley.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, October 12, 2026, President Ruto announced the commencement of the project, outlining its cost, length and planned connections to other areas.

“Also broke ground for the construction of the 17km Labuiywo-Kitechegaa/Kapkoros-Koisagat road at a cost of KSh1.3 billion. The road will later link to Nandi Hills and ultimately Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties,”he said.

The project is part of the government’s ongoing road infrastructure development programme, which seeks to improve transport networks and connect communities to markets, public services and economic opportunities.

Once completed, the road is expected to ease movement for residents and motorists using the route, while providing a link to wider regional transport networks.

The project also adds to the government’s infrastructure agenda, with road construction among the initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic activity across counties.
