President William Ruto begins a four-day development tour of Nyanza on Sunday, September 13, with more than Sh220 billion worth of government projects expected to dominate his visit.
Ruto will begin the tour in Kisumu before proceeding to Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori counties, where he is expected to inspect, launch and commission various development projects.
The President’s first major engagement will be a Sunday service at Vosh International Church in Kisumu.
He is also expected to meet local leaders and residents during the Kisumu leg of the tour before proceeding with the wider development programme.
The projects lined up for the region include roads, water and sanitation infrastructure and other major government investments.
The tour comes as the government seeks to demonstrate progress on its development agenda in a region where infrastructure and economic projects remain major concerns for residents.
Ruto’s visit will also be closely watched politically as he seeks to strengthen his administration’s support in Nyanza ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The President has increasingly made development projects a central feature of his visits to regions that have traditionally been associated with the opposition.
In Kisumu, attention will also focus on projects at the airport and other infrastructure developments expected to feature during the President’s engagements.
The tour will then move to Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori, giving Ruto an opportunity to assess projects being implemented across the four counties.
The four-day visit is expected to combine development inspections with meetings with local leaders and residents as the government seeks to showcase its record in the region.
The President’s Nyanza tour will run from September 13 to 16.
