Rose Mbithe Mulwa is set to face a second murder charge after detectives linked her to the killing of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu.

Mbithe is already facing a murder charge alongside her children, Chris Mulwa and Angela Mulwa, over the killing of psychiatrist Dr Victoria Nthunya Mutiso.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has now linked her to the September 9, 2025 murder of Mbobu, who was shot dead along Magadi Road while driving home.

According to the DCI, investigations into Mbobu’s killing have identified Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot as the suspected gunman.

Detectives also recovered a Ceska pistol that had been issued to Cheruiyot, with ballistic tests reportedly confirming that the firearm was used in Mbobu’s killing.

The DCI further alleges that Inspector Kenneth Sang, who remains at large, coordinated the operation in liaison with Mbithe.

“Detectives have also established that Inspector Kenneth Sang, who is currently at large, allegedly coordinated the operation in liaison with Rose Mbithe,” the DCI said.

Mbobu’s killing has been linked by investigators to a long-running property dispute involving Mbithe and Professor David Musyimi Ndetei, her former husband.

Mbobu had represented Ndetei in the legal dispute involving Mbithe, with detectives now investigating whether the dispute provided a motive for his killing.

The lawyer was attacked nearly a year before Dr Mutiso was killed.

Mutiso was shot dead on July 29, 2026, in Upper Hill, Nairobi. Mbithe, Chris and Angela Mulwa are among seven people currently facing murder charges over her death. All seven have pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution has alleged that the Mutiso killing was connected to a longstanding dispute over property in Mlolongo involving the deceased, her husband and the first three accused.

The State has also told the High Court that some witnesses are under protection and has opposed bail for the accused, citing fears of interference with witnesses and ongoing investigations.

The Mbobu investigation has therefore opened another legal front for Mbithe as she battles the murder case involving Mutiso.

For now, the allegations against Mbithe remain unproven and will have to be tested in court if the State proceeds with the second murder charge.
