Athlete fraternity has been thrown into mourning again after Samson Kandie, a retired marathoner was killed in brutal manner at his home in the upscale Elgon View Estate in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu.
His murder by unknown people comes a month after marathon champion Rebecca Cheptegei was killed by his husband in Endebes, Trans Nzoia county.
The attackers tied the 53-year-old’s hands and legs before freeing with his phone and other belongings.
According to Uasin Gishu police commander Benjamin Mwanthi, the assailants appeared to have waylaid him.
A stranger called and told the wife to look for Kandie behind the toilet where the body was discovered.
He was found in critical condition and died on arrival at a hospital in the city on Friday.
His career highlights include victories at the 2002 Sapporo Marathon and the 2004 Vienna Marathon.
Rebecca Cheptegei was murdered by her husband.
He was a podium finisher in the 1999 Berlin Marathon where he set his personal best time of 2:08:31.
