Media Council of Kenya (MCK) Chief Executive Officer David Omwoyo has been shortlisted for interviews for the position of Data Commissioner.
Omwoyo is among 13 candidates selected by the Public Service Commission (PSC) after the commission received 152 applications for the position.
According to a notice issued by PSC on Tuesday, September 29, Omwoyo will attend his interview at 12:30pm on Monday, October 5, at the commission’s offices in Nairobi.
He is seeking to succeed Immaculate Kassait, who was appointed Kenya’s first Data Protection Commissioner in November 2020. Her six-year term is set to end later in 2026.
Who else is on the shortlist?
The shortlist also includes Senior Deputy Data Commissioner at the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) Otieno Oscar Onyango and Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Director of Legal Services Lydia Chelagat Sitienei.
Other candidates are Office of the President official Jasper Mbiuki and Duncan Kubahatisha Nyale, who chairs the Kilifi Transport and Infrastructure Committee.
ICT specialists Shalle Mohamed Abdi and Solomon Kirwa, who have backgrounds in public sector and governance, have also been shortlisted.
The commission further named Kenyatta University and Konza Technopolis governance researcher Lynneth Cheronoh and Maasai Mara University lecturer Moses Lemayian Nooseli.
Technology and artificial intelligence researcher Stephen Odhiambo Anditi is also in the race.
The remaining candidates are public administration specialists Isaac Eregae Lobuin and Mohamed Hussein Abdi, as well as technology policy specialist John Walubengo Nyongesa.
Interviews set for October 5
PSC said the recruitment process followed an advertisement published on August 25. The commission received the 152 applications by the September 14 deadline.
All 13 shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on October 5 and are required to arrive at the PSC offices at least 20 minutes before their scheduled interview times.
Candidates are expected to carry their original identification documents, academic and professional certificates, transcripts, supporting documents and testimonials.
They will also be required to present clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), a registered Credit Reference Bureau and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
PSC has further invited members of the public with credible information about any of the shortlisted candidates to submit it through sworn affidavits.
The information must be submitted by October 1.
