Principal Secretary for Irrigation Ephantus Kimotho has officially chaired the entry meeting for the Kenya Sustainable Irrigation for a Resilient Economy (K-RISE) Programme, marking the start of a two-week mission to assess progress and set priorities for the initiative.

The programme aims to strengthen sustainable irrigation across the country, with a focus on expanding Farmer-Led Irrigation Development (FLID), improving the performance of existing irrigation schemes.

“Through this collaboration, the State Department for Irrigation seeks to leverage World Bank support to advance sustainable irrigation development, strengthen climate resilience, and enhance national food security,” he said.

He said the program will help in enhancing water security, and supporting the implementation of the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP). Officials will also review overall programme coordination to ensure maximum efficiency.

Through this collaboration, the State Department for Irrigation seeks to leverage support from the World Bank to advance irrigation development, improve climate resilience, and boost national food security.

He emphasized that K-RISE is designed to create long-term solutions for farmers, ensuring that irrigation systems are both productive and sustainable, while strengthening Kenya’s capacity to withstand climate-related shocks.
