The Port of Mombasa has recorded its highest-ever container discharge performance after a dedicated team successfully offloaded 863 containers in a single shift from the MV Aniello.
The team went on to complete the discharge of all 1,005 containers within one and a half shifts, marking a major milestone in the port’s cargo-handling operations.
Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto personally piloted the MV Aniello through the Kilindini Channel before safely berthing the vessel at Berth No. 22.
Cargo handling operations began at approximately 3:00 p.m., with vessel planners, crane operators, truck drivers, yard personnel and supervisors working together to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
Operating in four teams, the workers maintained a continuous workflow aimed at reducing the vessel’s turnaround time.
By 11:00 p.m., the team had discharged 863 containers, surpassing the port’s previous single-shift record.
The operation continued overnight, with the remaining containers cleared by 2:40 a.m. the following day.
Capt. Ruto attributed the achievement to modern cargo-handling equipment, a skilled and motivated workforce, technology-driven systems and continuous improvements in operational processes.
He said the combination of these investments has helped improve productivity and efficiency at the container terminal.
