Police in Mtwapa have recovered a number of electrical items believed to have been stolen from Kenya Power, in an operation linked to ongoing investigations into the theft of power cables and other electrical devices in the area.
According to police, officers from Mtwapa Police Station were pursuing leads after reports emerged of missing equipment that is critical to power distribution. Acting on intelligence, the team traced the suspected items to a residence located around the Cabros–Tausi Hotel area.
A search was conducted at the rented house, where officers found assorted electrical equipment hidden inside. The items are suspected to have been stolen and were allegedly being kept out of sight to avoid detection.
Two suspects were arrested at the scene and taken into custody as investigations continue. Police say the duo will be presented in court once processing is complete, while the recovered items have been secured and recorded as exhibits to support the case.
Authorities have once again raised concern over the rising cases of vandalism and theft targeting power installations, warning that such crimes go beyond financial loss. They often cause power outages, disrupt businesses and households, and can expose members of the public to serious danger, including electrocution.
