According to the National Police Service, social media reports alleging that a gang of thugs is wreaking havoc in Nairobi’s central business district (CBD), terrorising residents with human waste and crude weapons have been categorically denied.
Philemon Otieno Nyakombo, the Nairobi Central Sub-County Police Commander, explained that the frightening stories being shared on the internet are lies, while a good number of suspects have gone to jail on the issue of thuggery in the city centre.
Nyakombo advised the public to contact the security agencies with the information that they have instead of circulating rumours as more people would receive and a warning that the misinformation could lead to unnecessary panic.
On the other hand, some Nairobi CBD residents have called upon the police to not only do the usual patrol but also double their efforts in order to guarantee their safety in the busy commercial hub.
