President William Ruto today has made his tour in Voi, Taita Taveta County to launch major development projects aimed at boosting trade and transport within the Coastal region.
The President presided over the launch of the Voi–Mwatate Meter Gauge Railway reconstruction, costing Ksh 5.5 billion, an initiative that will connect Mombasa-Voi-Taveta-Moshi-Arusha-Singida-Bujumbura trade route, reducing the distance between Mombasa and Bujumbura by 358km.
He laid a foundation stone for the construction of the KSh300 million Voi Modern Market, complete with cold storage and other modern facilities to reduce post-harvest losses. The market will accommodate more than 1,000 traders.
In the same visit, Ruto launched the construction of the Ksh 950million Voi Stadium, a 10,000-capacity facility that will support sports and host events within the county.
The president said the projects are part of the government plans to strengthen the economy development.
