Patrick Osoi, the founder of Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI),was, today arraigned at Kahawa Anti-Terror Court where detectives from Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) sought custodial orders to detain him for 14 days pending investigations.

Osoi was arrested on July 29, 2025, in connection with allegations of preparation to commit a felony, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition without a valid certificate.

In court, Investigating Officer Josephine Korir filed a motion supported by an affidavit requesting that Osoi be held at Muthaiga Police Station to allow DCI’s Serious Crimes Unit to complete investigations.

Korir informed the court that Osoi has been actively using his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), under the handle @osoipatrick, to mobilize current and former police officers through the movement FBI. She claimed the group aims to resist what they term “illegal orders” and that the platform has garnered significant public influence, raising concern about potential mobilization of security personnel.

During the court session, the defense counsel applied to cross-examine the investigating officer on her affidavit, but this was strongly opposed by the prosecution, which argued that the defense had failed to specify the paragraph in question within the affidavit. The application for cross-examination will be heard tomorrow, July 31, at 9 a.m.

Meanwhile, tensions were high within the court premises as one suspect, identified as Jackson Kuria, was arrested while wearing a beret symbolizing the FBI movement.

A third suspect voluntarily presented himself at Muthaiga Police Station later in the evening. In a separate matter before the same court, 16 Saba Saba protestors who have been in custody since July 17 were granted release on a cash bail of Ksh 50,000 or bond of Ksh 200,000 with a surety.

Senior Principal Magistrate Kipkemoi Koech ordered the group not to interfere with investigations or contact witnesses and to comply with further summons issued by investigating officers. Their trial is scheduled for August 26.
