A passenger has died aboard a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi to Lagos after suffering a medical emergency shortly before the aircraft landed in Nigeria.
Kenya Airways confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at around 9:20pm local Nigerian time. According to the airline, the passenger became unresponsive approximately 20 minutes before the aircraft was scheduled to land in Lagos.
The cabin crew immediately administered first aid to the passenger in line with their training and followed the required emergency procedures.
The aircraft landed at Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 9:41pm, where medical personnel were waiting to attend to the passenger.
However, after further examination, the medical team confirmed that the passenger had died.
Kenya Airways expressed its condolences to the deceased’s family and friends following the incident.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the airline said.
The carrier also apologised for any inconvenience the incident may have caused other passengers while emphasising that it was respecting the privacy and dignity of everyone involved.
Kenya Airways said it was providing the necessary support and working closely with the deceased’s family, local authorities and aviation regulators as the matter is handled.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by Kenya Airways’ Corporate Communications department on Wednesday, October 7.
