Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has paid an emotional tribute to former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, describing him as an inspiring leader who defied convention and instilled hope in those around him.
In a condolence message following Jirongo’s death, Sudi said he was deeply shocked by the loss of a man he termed a political giant whose influence would endure beyond his lifetime.
Sudi revealed that Jirongo played a key role in shaping his political and professional journey, having worked closely with him for three and a half years.
“Honourable Jirongo was my former boss, and I had the privilege of working with him from 2009 to mid 2012 as his trusted assistant,” Sudi said. “During that period, I witnessed his dedication, passion and kindness firsthand.”
He recalled Jirongo’s unique leadership style, particularly his ability to inspire confidence and optimism even during difficult moments.
“One thing that stood out about him was his ability to sell hope,” Sudi said. “Even when resources were scarce, he spoke with such conviction that you believed solutions were already in place.”
According to Sudi, this optimism enabled Jirongo to rally people around his ideas and ambitions, earning loyalty and respect from colleagues and protégés alike.
“He was a true leader who challenged norms and inspired those around him,” he added.
Sudi extended his condolences to Jirongo’s family, friends and associates, noting that the loss was deeply felt by those who knew him personally and professionally.
“Rest in peace, my good friend Jirongo,” he said.
Jirongo, a seasoned politician and businessman, died in a grisly road accident in the early hours of Saturday, December 13, 2025, along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway. Police said the 64 year old was travelling from Nakuru towards Nairobi when his vehicle collided head on with a passenger bus at around 3.00 a.m.
Meanwhile, the burial committee announced that the former Lugari MP will be laid to rest on December 30, 2025, at his Lumakanda home next to his parents. Former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, speaking on behalf of the family, said the decision was reached after consultations, given that Jirongo had several homes.
